🌲St Leonard's Forest🌲 We love finding new places 🌲St Leonard's Forest🌲

We love finding new places to walk. Hardly saw anyone ... bonus 😅💚🌳🌿

Not far from Crawley/Horsham is St Leonard's Forest. No facilities but free parking at the Roosthole car park! 🚙

Make sure you have enough time to explore as we got a little lost as the map at the car park isn't the best (maybe it was our map skills)
Take a photo of it. Make sure you bring snacks and water.

Let us know if you go! Enjoy

Last Friday, we hung out @nymansnt to listen to li Last Friday, we hung out @nymansnt to listen to live music and have a little picnic after hours. What a gorgeous night it was to chill out with friends on the lawn by the stunning house there. Have you been?

It was free with our National Trust membership, though it's cheaper for you after 4 30pm if you're not a member. And if like me, you're not a late night out person, this is perfect! So lovely in fact, that we are going again this Friday for their last late night this summer. You can also walk around the garden and woodland (by the overflow carpark).

Fri 24 July: The Falmer Swing Collective Enjoy the Hot Club Jazz stylings of this four-piece band as they bring you jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt and his contemporaries 🎶🎷

Dogs🐕‍🦺 on short leads welcome. Half price admission after 4.30pm. Music: 6pm - 8pm. This year, a range of delicious treats are available from London food van Kang Foo Noodles🍜, while The Fizzy Filly offers alcoholic drinks, cocktails and soft drinks, perfect for enjoying on a balmy summer night.

We had a lovely Saturday afternoon at Leigh Flower We had a lovely Saturday afternoon at Leigh Flower Show and Country Fayre. Having worked in Leigh, I love the village community feel here and enjoy supporting such a fantastic event.

Some fab entries in the flower and craft competitions, yummy cake and interesting stalls.

Although you'll have to wait until next next year for the flower show, you can visit @theploughleigh or the @thesevenstarsleigh have a peep in the old, red phone box, which is now a history box, visit the playground (free parking next to it) or have a wander down some of the country paths.

We often find frogs and toads at Earlswood. Do you We often find frogs and toads at Earlswood. Do you know the difference?

What does a frog look like? 🐸
British frogs have sleek, smooth skin that usually looks wet, even when they’re out of water. Their legs are longer than their head and body and are perfect for jumping – their preferred method of getting around. Frogs are also lithe and athletic looking, with a pointed nose.

What does a toad look like?
Unlike frogs, British toads have bumpy, warty-looking skin that’s virtually always dry. They also have much shorter legs than frogs and prefer to crawl around rather than hop. Toads are quite squat and dumpy, with a much broader nose than the frog.

Last week, we had great fun bug hunting at Rowfant Last week, we had great fun bug hunting at Rowfant Trail. Looking under logs and then finding snails and slugs right next to us! 🐌🪱

The children looked closely at how the creatures moved and made sure they went back where we found them.

Toddlers, Year 1 and Year 3 all enjoyed making elder beads worms. Most got given names - Bob, Steve and such like 😂

Remember, children learn best by being shown, then trying it on their own. If you don't embrace the exploring, or you show a fear for bugs and spiders, they'll think that's the normal way to act...

Fun fact 🪱🪱🪱

How do worms breathe?

Through their skin – but only if it’s kept moist. A worm’s skin is covered in mucus that helps them absorb oxygen. This is why they prefer to stay underground and come to the surface after rain. If a worm’s environment becomes too dry, it will dry out and be unable to breathe.
